28th July is World Hepatitis Day, a day that highlights the need to ramp up the fight against viral hepatitis.

WHO’s global hepatitis strategy aims to reduce new hepatitis infections by 90% by 2030. Unfortunately, many are unaware of their hepatitis status, and for most people, testing and treatment are inaccessible.1-4

As per WHO reports, around 4.5 million premature deaths could be prevented in low- and middle-income countries by 2030 if strategies are placed to improve access to vaccines, tests, and treatment.5

Education campaigns can play an important role to raise awareness and end the stigma and discrimination associated with hepatitis. A collaborative approach with involvement of the right stakeholders is needed.6
